Bestseller Anderson combines romance with a touch of suspense in the somewhat predictable fifth installment of her Coulter family series (after Bright Eyes
). Veterinarian Isaiah Coulter agrees to hire Laura Townsend as a kennel keeper at his clinic despite her speech impediment, the result of brain damage she sustained after a diving accident five years earlier. With her sparkling personality and love of animals, Laura is the perfect addition to Isaiah's clinic. But when errors are committed on Laura's shift, naturally she's blamed, and she begins to suspect that someone is framing her in the hope of getting her fired. Isaiah remains her stalwart defender as attraction sparks between them, developing into a romance that is both sweet and sensual. While the identity of the individual framing Laura will come as no surprise to the savvy reader, the uniqueness of the relationship between the successful veterinarian and the woman whose handicaps are overshadowed by her ability to love more than compensates. Agent, Steve Axelrod.

It's taken Laura Townsend five years of struggling with aphasia (the ability to use language is impaired) caused by a diving accident to achieve the independence she now has, but she needs a real job in order to be self-supporting. So when overworked, good-looking veterinarian Isaiah Coulter agrees to take her on as a kennel keeper, she is thrilled. Despite his firm ban on workplace romances, Isaiah quickly falls in love with his new employee, and now his only problem is how to convince Laura that she, aphasia and all, is the only woman for him. Spite, jealousy, and well-meaning family meddling cause problems for both Laura and Isaiah in this heartwarming romance that also does a skillful job of treating serious issues in a hopeful but not sugar-coated way. The fifth title in the "Coulter Family" series is another winner from Anderson's compassionate pen, and, although it doesn't fall within the Inspirational subgenre, the book's gentle religious overtones may appeal to those readers.

For Laura Townsend the chance to once again have a "real" job would be a dream come true. Five years earlier a swimming accident left her with aphasia, and now even simple things like writing, reading, and speaking are daily challenges. Forced to give up her job as an environmental scientist, Laura supports herself by doing a variety of odd jobs, including dog walking, so she eagerly embraces the chance to become a kennel keeper. Veterinarian Isaiah Coulter actually agrees to interview Laura as a favor to his mother, but once he meets her and sees just how good she is with animals, he hires her, never expecting that he may have found more than a new kennel keeper. A quietly courageous heroine takes a chance at life and love in the latest installment in Anderson's Coulter family series. With the author's signature nurturing warmth and emotional depth, this beautifully written romance is a richly rewarding experience for any reader.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2005, American Library Association.)
