Recent architecture school graduate Alix Madsen takes a year to live on Nantucket, Mass., where she plans to recover from a bad breakup, study for her exams, and prepare a portfolio. While she loves the island, her head truly gets turned when she realizes that she’ll be living in close proximity to famed architect Jared Montgomery. Super-sexy Jared has no interest in serving as anyone’s mentor, but he’s drawn to Alix’s talent and beauty. As their relationship builds, Jared concedes that he knows more about Alix’s ties to Nantucket than she herself understands. As family and friends gather for Alix’s best friend’s upcoming wedding, old souls may be reuniting in modern bodies, putting a reincarnation twist on the contemporary beach read. Deveraux (Moonlight Masquerade) masterfully brings together two kindred spirits, giving readers lots of reasons to look forward to the next installments in the planned Nantucket Brides trilogy. Agent: Robin Rue, Writers House.

A novel about star-crossed love, life, death and reincarnation. This is the first in the author's planned Nantucket Brides trilogy. The book opens with the renowned architect Jared Montgomery Kingsley having a conversation with the ghost of his ancestor Caleb, who died 200 years earlier. Jared has been able to see and hear him since he was a child. Jared's aunt Addy, recently deceased, has left him the old family mansion on Nantucket, with the condition that a young woman named Alix be allowed to live there for one year. Alix is the daughter of a couple who visited Addy before they divorced and helped Jared when he lost his parents as a teenager. The father, Ken, was an architect who, noticing Jared's talent for designing and building things, directed him away from potential delinquency and into what became a great career. The mother, Victoria, was a popular novelist who published many best-sellers and was able to pay for Jared's education. Victoria often returned to the house in Nantucket to read the old journals she found there, which proved helpful in plotting her novels. Alix, who followed in her father's footsteps and studied architecture in college, knew about the great Jared Montgomery and was awed, even a bit enamored of him, so she is both excited and frightened by the prospect of meeting him in Nantucket. As the plot develops, we discover that Ken and Victoria had other connections to Jared's family. By the end, several star-crossed couples find each other again in new lives. A romantic story of love so deep it survives centuries.

Best-selling romance author Deveraux is at her spellbinding romantic finest as she launches the brand-new Nantucket Brides series. The story follows young Alix Madsen, a brokenhearted architect student, who unexpectedly becomes the owner of a quaint little Nantucket property. Adelaide Kingsley has left the home to Madsen in her will, but who Kingsley is and what her relationship is to the family remains in question. While Alix moves in and gets busy planning her best friend's wedding, she starts falling for the charming architect living in the guest house. But even with all the romance in the air, she becomes aware that Kingsley left the house to Alix in order to help solve an old family mystery. Throughout the novel, secrets slowly emerge within the house and among Deveraux's characters, inducing Alix to question everything and everyone she knows, including her new love interest. Readers will be eager for the next installment.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2013, American Library Association.)
