Notorious rake Maximilian St. James needs a respectable wife, and fast. He intends to wed the charming and lovely Cathy Tate, but Cathy's sister Bianca convinces Cathy instead to elope with her true love, agreeing to marry Max in her place. Decidedly the less suitable sister, Bianca wishes to keep working at the family's flourishing ceramics business, and marrying Max will guarantee the company's continued success. Thus, she agrees to marriage in name only. Max, however, is struck by the sheer joy he finds in his new bride and sets out to prove he's worthy of not only being a trusted business partner but also a loving husband. VERDICT Linden (An Earl Like Me) begins her "Desperately Seeking Duke" series with a beautifully written, sensual tale that combines slow-burn heat, witty enemies-to-lovers banter, and lush details of Bianca's career.
