The final book in the long-running series featuring the Reverend Curtis Black, including A Sinful Calling (2016) and Sin of a Woman (2017), is full of Roby's trademark drama, surprises, forgiveness, and hope. Curtis is shocked when he learns that Trina, his long-estranged sister, has only a short while to live. Curtis spends every possible moment reconnecting with her, even though this makes him remember his abusive childhood and parents he has never been able to forgive. Curtis' current wife, Charlotte, is depressed over having to fill the relentlessly stressful role of First Lady of the church Curtis founded, Deliverance Outreach. Then her father has a heart attack. With no break in sight, she returns to alcohol for relief. Curtina, their youngest, now 12, has become extremely disrespectful and addicted to her smartphone. Charlotte then learns about a more serious situation at her daughter's school. Fans will feel nostalgic to learn that Roby is wrapping up her best-selling Curtis Black series, but at least Curtis is going out with a bang. He's been hiding a terrible childhood, which comes out even as his estranged sister becomes ill and his 12-year-old daughter becomes a tyrant.
