In the second Westruther Regency (after London’s Last True Scoundrel), Brooke packs enough misunderstanding, misinterpretation, and eligible misses to fill a shelf of novels. At the ripe old age of 24, Miss Georgiana Black is “on the shelf,” where she’s been for the six years since the abrupt end of her betrothal to Marcus, Earl of Beckenham. She’s resigned herself to remaining single forever; after all, in a few months she’s set to gain full control of her sizable inheritance and won’t need a man. But during a scandalous impromptu reunion with Beckenham, the ember of her love and lust for the earl once more bursts into flame. The two are thrown together at every turn, and while their mutual errors of communication are quite sufficient to stymie a potential union, Beckenham’s archnemesis also holds a trump card that could ruin the couple.
