In the aftermath of the events of The Case of the Green-Dressed Ghost, Kester Lanner is adjusting to his position at Dr. Ribero's Supernatural Agency, despite his fear of the paranormal. But Kester knows he is letting his father down by not being able to open the "spirit door"--a power supposedly passed down from his mother that would help the financially flailing agency tremendously. Desperate for the next contract, the agency must partner with Dr. Ribero's rival, Larry Higgins, in removing a murderous ghost from the town of Lyme Regis, where retirees are seeing duplicates of themselves before dying in often gruesome ways. The only clue is an ancient gravesite that no one will admit to disturbing. The agencies are pressed for time before the spirit kills again, or the teams end up murdering each other. VERDICT Banks hits her stride in this second paranormal series installment; Kester is developing as a character with more depth, personality, and experience.
