A copper has to investigate a crime that connects his boyfriend to a potential new flame. Stanebridge Police Inspector Robin Bright has had his share of mixing work and pleasure. Though that hasn't always been his intent, it's how he met his live-in lover, teacher Adam Matthews . When Robin's called in over the weekend to investigate a crime in neighboring Abbotston, he realizes that he's been assigned to the case because of his personal life: the victim was last seen arguing at The Desdemona, one of Abbotston's gay bars. Unfortunately for Robin, he's not the only one with a connection to the case. Adam has a history with Worsley, a person of interest to the police, and he also seems to be a person of interest to Worsley in a very personal way. Robin tries in vain to keep himself from getting distracted by the threat to his love life, though an apparent attempt on his own life provides an emphatic distraction for both men. Though Robin should be relieved when he turns over the investigation to the Abbotston department, he can't help but feel that there's a connection between the murder and a more recent robbery gone wrong in his own town. Is it worth trying to investigate, are his attentions more needed at home, or will his two interests collide in a way that makes the choice for him? A writer of both mysteries and romances, Cochrane (The Best Corpse for the Job, 2014, etc.) strikes a fine balance between the two in story of professional meets personal--which should please those who don't want to take either one too seriously.
