This second book in the "Ancient Ink" series swings its focus from stoic clan leader Priest to Tate Allen, a tattoo artist and coyote-shifter who is hungering for his mate. He knows Elise Ralston is destined to be with him by order of the Keeper--but she doesn't. In fact, Elise barely knows anything about what it means to be Volàn, since her mother denied her own gifts to give Elise what she thought would be a "normal" life. She does know that striking, protective Tate elicits a response in her like no other man she's met and that once she's embarked on her soul quest, she'll be able to shift, too. When Elise finally transforms, she emerges as healer prima of the clan and fully captures Tate's wild heart. However, all is not well in paradise, as a mysterious stalker seems to be endangering their lives. The group is worried it's the return of a corrupt, murderous clan member who used dark magic to betray his kin. Though the plentiful characters and plot may plod along for those unfamiliar with the universe, things accelerate to a thrilling tale of magical intrigue when the stranger's identity is revealed, leading to a powerful finale of spellwork and sacrifice. In the solitude of their bedroom and the wilds of the wood, Tate and Elise give free rein to their primal urges and raw attraction. VERDICT Best enjoyed after reading the first in the series, Guardian's Bond. Fans of Morgan's steamy paranormal erotic romances will not be disappointed.
