Frost’s utterly enjoyable second Night Rebel novel (after Shades of Wicked) delivers all the sizzle, sass, and suspense that make this paranormal world such a thrill. Vampire Law Guardian Veritas has a secret plan to destroy Dagon, a demon who has wrought centuries of harm on the world and killed Veritas’s husband, Ian. The dangerous mission could cost her her life, as well as her career, and Veritas is determined to go it alone. Ian, resurrected and then promptly abandoned by Veritas, can’t understand why his wife is avoiding him. With few memories of their life before Dagon’s attack, along with intriguing new powers he must learn to control, Ian dogs Veritas on her quest, desperately trying to get some answers from the woman he still adores. Amid fierce battles of wits, weapons, and magic, Frost highlights her characters’ courage, growing self-acceptance, and unshakable love for one another. Clever exposition will help new readers pick up the plot quickly, and longtime devotees of Frost’s rich paranormal world will delight in cameos by characters from past books across the Night Huntress universe

Vampires Ian and Veritas continue their quest to slay an evil demon, encountering friends and enemies who help and hinder them, while Ian encourages Veritas to embrace her shadow self, elements of which she's convinced will make him despise her. When last we met Ian and Veritas (Shades of Wicked, 2018), she was convinced he wouldn't remember her after she called on some dark powers to save him from death and he'd lost his memory. Traveling across the globe to fulfill obligations from the event, she's stunned when Ian not only remembers her, but demands they publicly avow their marriage. Determined to save him from himself, she's stymied when he refuses to let her face danger--including a demon determined to kill her--on her own. Together again, the couple seeks out ways to thwart the demon and kill him, and on their way, they are well-served by friends who love them, unexpected allies, and some magical artifacts that could be the unexpected weapons they need to accomplish the hunt. As intense as Ian claims his feelings are for her, Veritas fears that once he knows her darkest secrets, he'll shun her. Ian, however, has an inkling of what those secrets are, and he argues that she's perfect the way she is--but she needs to embrace her whole self before she'll be truly happy. Frost's second Night Rebel title is a fierce and satisfying sequel, brilliantly fleshing out two vibrant characters in ways that feature their surface power and irreverent attitudes but also spotlight the internal courage and nobility which make them perfect for each other. The hurtling plot and outstanding worldbuilding frame a poignant, character-driven romance that explores unconditional love and self-acceptance. The book stands alone, but reading the first title is recommended. A breathtaking paranormal romance.

He has leveled charges against the council for forced spousal abandonment, accusing it of keeping them separated. Veritas cannot fathom how Ian has reclaimed memories of her and their union. Intensely wild adventures as well as some of the best sex in contemporary romance ensue as they travel the globe, spar with other powerful paranormals, and track down the demon who should not have been able to recover from losing all the souls he had ingested over the centuries. Tavia Gilbert narrates the second installment of the Night Rebel series. Although she is a vampire Law Guardian, Veritas is traveling the world on her own secret and dangerous mission. Master vampire playboy Ian may have a case of amnesia, but he is certain of one thing: Veritas is his wife. Gilbert's spirited performance captures the heat between Veritas and Ian and further draws the listener into the couple's world. Some of the accents she gives the worldly characters are inconsistent, most noticeably that of Veritas; however, this lapse does not interfere with enjoying the story.
