Gr 5 Up-Told from the perspective of the victim, this sequel brings to light the importance of being aware of bullying, particularly in today's technologically advanced world. Sixth-grader Ginger is grieving her mother's death. Adding to her pain is Kylie Steepe, the "Queen Bee" of Gold County Middle School. Kylie and her pack of friends torment Ginger both in the school hallways and on social media. Throughout the story, Ginger receives some positive feedback and advice from various secondary characters (for instance, a counselor helps Ginger become more confident). There are many references to religion, and Rue does not shy away from underscoring how Ginger's Christian faith plays a role in her journey. Using simple and straightforward language, Rue tackles a serious issue through relatable characters. VERDICT Ideal as a parent-child discussion-starter on the subject of bullying, particularly in faith-based settings.-H. Islam, Brooklyn Public Library
