This time around, Nat is excited and nervous about a possible romance. She has a crush on her friend Derek, who also loves comic books and is fun to be around, but once she starts changing herself to align with Derek's preferences, Nat's pals start feeling like they're losing their best friend. When she starts breaking promises and canceling plans, Zoe lets Nat know that she's feeling disrespected and angry at Nat's thoughtlessness. After some embarrassing encounters and a dance that doesn't go as Nat hoped, she realizes that she wasn't being a great friend and vows to regain her true identity.
