Her older brother Marco recently got leg cancer so her and her mom and to move with him to a new city where he could get treated. Though they were only supposed to be their for a while the doctors had to hold off the surgery because Marco had a terrible cold that just wouldn't go away and could not risk doing the surgery. On top of that Gabby was having trouble finding her voice in her new school. She also did not want anyone to know that her brother was sick because they would feel obliged to be nice to her. That's when Aria, Gaby's guardian angel, came to help Gabby try to be herself. But will Gabby ever find her voice? Will Marco ever get better? Read the book and I guarantee you will find out.

Grades 4-7 Gabby is nervous about starting her new school, but she is more nervous that people will find out about her brother, who is ill. She loves and worries about him and his condition, but she is tired of being just the girl with the sick brother. Then Aria, a guardian angel in the form of a friend, comes into her life and tries to help Gabby find her own voice. The relationship that develops between the pair gives Gabby confidence. Gabby's voice is authentic, and children who feel defined by a family member's illness will easily relate to her feelings. Aria will be an excellent character to watch in future books in the Everyday Angel series as she continues to help those in need and understand her limitations and abilities. Despite the serious subject matter, there are moments of lightness, especially when Aria is narrating; her readers will welcome her future assignments to earn her wings.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2014, American Library Association.)
