Rodeos

Grades K-2 This beginning reader from the Arena Events series (6 titles) introduces children to rodeos, starting with the derivation of the word?from the Spanish, meaning to round-up. There is a page of rodeo history and a glance at rodeo clowns, but most of the book's short text is devoted to rodeo events: bareback riding, saddle bronc riding, and steer wrestling, though unfortunately, none of them is explained (there is an online link in the back matter to learn more about rodeos ). More attention is paid to bull riding, with information about how the competition works. What will draw readers in are the action-filled color photographs that take up most of each page.
