Easter Love Letters from God

Preschool-G The seven parts of this book take young readers on a journey through Holy Week, from Jesus' joyful arrival into Jerusalem, through his lessons to the disciples during the Last Supper and his time in the Garden of Gethsemane, to the Crucifixion, burial, and Resurrection. Each section includes a Bible story, verse, and a letter to the child reader. Gentle cartoon illustrations are more serious than silly, well matched to the events of the Easter story and the intended audience. Digital collage incorporates physical items, such as palm leaves and fabric flowers, with softly colored drawings. The illustrations provide further information without being too harsh or graphic. For example, nails are pictured but are not shown in Jesus' hands and feet. The soldiers have spears but are not depicted hurting anyone, and when Jesus is dead, his body is covered. Although elements of the Easter story potentially are upsetting, the text strikes a good balance by being simple enough for children to understand, including significant details, and using a nonthreatening tone overall.
