Grades 5-8 Like all books in the Basher Science series, this installment personifies major players in climate change, such as the sun, glaciers, carbon footprints, and the ozone layer. Basher uses full-color, anime-inspired cartoons and first-person descriptions for each concept. By giving scientific concepts humanized physical characteristics and personality traits, Basher makes abstract scientific knowledge more understandable on an introductory level. Tools for tracking and measuring climate change, human variables, global gases that contribute to warming, common atmospheric pollutants, ocean conditions, and forces of positive changes in current climate trends all get their own chapter. A pull-out poster of the carbon cycle is included, and a glossary defines unfamiliar terms. Although climate change can be a foreboding subject, Green manages to bring the same brand of levity to the text that other Basher Science books have delivered. Though small in size, this volume is an accessible quick reference and supplemental resource for science curricula on a timely and increasingly urgent topic.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2015, American Library Association.)
