Birthday Party Games

PreS-KThese books are very, very simple. That means they are also very, very limited in substance. The good news is that each spread has a colorful full-page photograph of smiling, engaged children and adults that faces a subject heading and a few sentences. "Customs" introduces some new ideas: in Brazil children pull the earlobe of the birthday child for each year and in Canada some people smear butter on the birthday child's nose. "Celebrations" is uninspiring, and "Games" breaks no new ground, offering the traditional pin the tail on the donkey, bingo, and musical chairs. There is a use for titles easy enough for preschool and kindergarten classrooms, but these books are not going to encourage thinking or enthusiasm."Susan Lissim, Dwight School, New York City"
