Gr 2-3-Aimed at young scientists with limited resources, each volume describes nine simple experiments that use common household items and substances. Most of the projects require little or no setup, and the author provides neither lists of required supplies nor instructions more precise than, for example, "1. Pour some water into a bowl. 2. Add some cooking oil." Directions, comments, related facts, and safety tips are enclosed within bubbles floating around appropriately informal illustrations of children engaged in relevant activities as pets or other small animals watch. Each volume's title only hints at its scope. For example, Bugs goes beyond observing insects to cover building a (temporary) earthworm terrarium and creating rainbows, while Shadows includes using mirrors and creating static electricity.
