Grades 2-5 Ever heard of Coptic Christmas? How about National Wattle Day? If that's a no and a no, look to the titles in the Cultural Traditions in My World series for an introduction. Unlike your typical about-a-country books, these focus solely on holidays, special events, and customsencompassing everything from religious observances to seasonal ritualsand present them in chronological order as they occur throughout the year. In May, June, or July, one of the Cultural Traditions in Thailand involves ushering in the rice-growing season with the royal plowing ceremony. These large-format books feature one custom per spread and colorful, action-oriented photographs. Back matter is fairly nonexistent; nonetheless, the titles offer a tidy overview of a topic covered in many elementary school units.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2013, American Library Association.)
