Although there is a profusion of one-volume Bible commentaries, along comes another, albeit unusual example. Not only is MacArthur's more doctrinally unified (Evangelical) than the rest -chiefly because it has been compiled by one author -but it also comes from a long tradition of "everyman's" commentaries originally published by Moody Press. This is not surprising given MacArthur's (president, Master's Coll. and Seminary) reputation as a world-renowned Christian leader who can be heard daily on the internationally syndicated radio broadcast "Grace to You". Unlike other commentaries, which tend to be either too scholarly or too mired in history, his is readily accessible to all, emphasizing the understanding of difficult ideas, phrases, and terms. This amazing volume contains faith-based summaries of key teachings, word studies, and many articles, charts, and maps. It is even exciting in that new or interesting insights can be gleaned from any page at random, demonstrating the volume's purpose of improving biblical literacy among the average Bible reader. Recommended for public and academic libraries, both large and small. -Gary P. Gillum, Brigham Young Univ. Lib., Provo, UT
