When former Secret Service agent Penni DePaul shows up at the Black Knights headquarters in Chicago to see Dan Carrington, one of the Knights she can't forget, she learns he is in Peru on a high-stakes mission. Dan, a widower whose wife was murdered two years ago, has finally pulled his life together and controlled the alcoholism caused by his unbearable grief, and he hasn't forget Penni. When she shows up in Peru, they renew their intense fling from a prior mission, except that she gets caught up in the current one, with bullets flying all the way back to Chicago, where she is finally able to tell Dan the secret she has been keeping from him. But other obstacles arise until, with the help of the other Black Knights women, the two of them finally get together in a very satisfying ending.
