Gr 8 Up-Bennett's outstanding collection of photos and interviews, which builds on the original 2018 New York Times feature, looks at 21 girls on the cusp of adulthood. The young women come from diverse backgrounds and cultures, but all have dreams for the future. The profiles demonstrate the challenges of navigating life as a young woman but also celebrate the beauty of being a girl today. Superb photographs, taken by other young women, add to the text and give the book an authentic voice, echoing the book's tagline: "girls' lives through girls' eyes." VERDICT Bennett's work provides necessary insight into girls' lives across the world.
