This study guide offers extensive notes to supplement high school geometry courses. Styled as a notebook filled with clear, concise class notes, this volume covers 10 units of progressively more complicated geometry concepts over the course of more than 600 pages. Beginning with the basics--points, lines, planes, and angles--the chapters work through triangles, quadrilaterals, and polygons; right angles and trigonometry; and area and volume, among other topics. Large, clear text that resembles handwriting on blue-lined paper presents information that is organized in tables, lists, definitions, extensive diagrams, and step-by-step sample problems. Capital letters, bold font, highlighting and colored text, and diagrams make important concepts stand out against the ample white space so it is easy to locate specific topics during study sessions, whether flipping through pages or using the table of contents or extensive index. Each chapter ends with a quiz with answers immediately following. The explanations of concepts are clear, sometimes using everyday examples to make the ideas accessible. The skills are carefully scaffolded with sample problems for straightforward digestion and practice, though the more complicated topics may require repeated exposure for retention. As with other books in the series, this notebook is intended as a supplement to a traditional textbook and course, and it serves this purpose well. A reference work that makes high school geometry a little easier to learn. (index) (Nonfiction. 14-18)

Grades 8-12 Billed as notes taken by the smartest person in your class, the Big Fat Notebook series (2 new titles) breaks down advanced concepts for students struggling to connect with dull or off-putting subjects. Simply on a visual level, these chunky guides feel approachable due to the winning combination of their handwritten font, cartoon and doodle illustrations, ample whitespace, and color coding. As for the content, these are excellent supplements for standard textbooks, offering readers friendly introductions to foundational concepts while using plain language, clear examples, and end-of-chapter quizzes to reinforce key concepts. While these aren't replacements for textbooks, they act as a solid bridge between students and more academic writing, much like the Dummies books for adults do. The concepts build in complexity as readers advance through the book, but the individual chapters--always relatively short--break the units' key points into manageable segments relayed in an affable tone. Geometry follows a similar structure, dividing its content into 10 units that tackle geometry basics (points, lines, angles, logic, and proofs) and triangles (including congruence, similarity, and trigonometry), all the way through circles and calculating area, surface area, and volume. Excellent support for classroom or at-home learning.
