Psychoanalyst Bond has written a series of psychological profiles of famous women, including Marilyn Monroe, Jacqueline Onassis, even Lady Macbeth. Through her fictional character, Dr. Darcy Dale, Bond turns her attention this time to Clinton, drawing on numerous sources that have chronicled Clinton's rise to international fame. Clinton recalls for Dale a troubled childhood with an abusive father who withholds his approval and an adoring mother who spurred her to achievement. Dale guides Clinton through her early life, courtship with the charming womanizer Bill Clinton, and their partnership in politics. Dale sees Bill, from the time of his and Hillary's meeting, as the boy archetype, stuck at 16, and Hillary as the stable adult, stuck at 40. The counseling sessions span Bill's philandering, her enabling, their mutual ambitions through the governorship of Arkansas, the presidency, her time as a U.S. senator and secretary of state, and their parenting style and fascinating marriage. Fans of Bond's work will enjoy this look at one of the most interesting women in U.S. history.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2015, American Library Association.)
