(She is not a vampire.) One night while sipping tea and reading by the fireplace Carly meets a rat named Lewis who is preparing to play music with... a squash. Lewis then asks if she knew how to play the horn. As the nights go by Carly meets the rat's leader Breeza Meezy, who want's Carly to place a white cradle to give "hope." As Carly was going to the rat's cave she finds a note in the cradle saying"Beware of Broken Rocks." Carly dosn't know what it means and it keeps her curiosity to find the history of Whistle Root.
