Gr 3-5-In this installment, sixth-grader Flora and her younger sister, Ruby, are getting ready for their first Christmas in Camden Falls with Grandmother Min. The mood is festive in their close-knit community, but friends and neighbors are dealing with such issues as poverty, abusive parents, and Alzheimers disease. There are no quick fixes to these tough problems, but the hard edges are sanded away, and the gentle, clear-eyed narration keeps readers focused on the positive.
