The Lonely Planet writers describe Jerome, AZ, as a town with "a groovy joie de vivre," and that's the spirit of this updated guidebook (the first edition was published in 2009). Thirty-two road trips are featured, each lasting from two to four days. Focusing on natural wonders, native culture, and history, each trip includes points of interest, with address, phone number, and URL listed. Seven of the entries are designated as "Classic Trips," journeys that offer unique Southwest experiences and sights. Tips suggesting spots for capturing essential photos and the best time to go accompany each listing. The authors also recommend "Stretch Your Legs" walking tours that highlight larger cities such as Santa Fe and Austin. The maps are small but adequate starting points, and the size and format of the book make it easy to pack. VERDICT A must-have for travelers who want more than chain motels and restaurants. Libraries will want to update their travel collections with this attractive guidebook full of wonderful pictures--it's a wish book for those who haven't yet made their vacation plans.--Susan Belsky, Oshkosh P.L., WI
