The road trips in this guide offer something for most driving-inclined travelers. Tours emphasize types of scenery, geographic areas, and various aspects of Irish culture. Itineraries stretch from two days to two weeks, focusing on larger tourist attractions but also including lesser-known sights. For shorter drives off the beaten path, readers may prefer Donna Dailey's Back Roads Ireland. Overall, the book is easy to navigate, with clear routes and maps at several scales. However, the focus on specific trips and sights comes at the expense of some of the general artistic, cultural, and historical background often available in a standard guide. Also, the book appears to have a European audience in mind; tips for Americans are largely buried in a separate section at the end.
