Field-Lewis (coauthor, My Cool Caravan) visits kitchens in homes around the world that reflect the owner's style, rather than just a designer's imprimatur, to showcase decorating ideas and encourage amateurs in developing their own style. In a manner similar to her previous work, Field-Lewis provides information about the inhabitants and their lifestyles and then proceeds to explain the design choices in furniture, decorative accessories, paint, flooring, and cabinetry. Maxted and Gray supply more than 250 color images not only of the 37 kitchens but of other rooms as well to show how the cooking area relates to the home's design. Included are kitchens in the United States, Europe, Africa, Australia, and New Zealand. VERDICT Do-it-yourselfers will find a plethora of design ideas here to give them the impetus to create their own cool kitchen.
