Wax (While We Were Watching Downton Abbey, 2014) returns to a beachy setting for this novel about three longtime friends, Emma, Mackenzie, and Serena, who reunite for a week at a lake house. Mackenzie and Serena are Emma's daughter Zoe's godmothers, and after several years of estrangement, she's invited them to help celebrate Zoe's sixteenth birthday. Just before their vacation, Emma is seriously injured in an accident, and her friends and daughter bond as they help nurse her back to health at the lake. But each woman is also escaping her own problems. Serena has professional success as a voice actress but keeps falling for unavailable men. Mackenzie and her husband have grown distant after being unable to have children. And Emma's secret reason for bringing everyone together may tear them all apart.
