Contemporary romance author Molly O’Keefe (Indecent Proposal), under a new version of her name, moves skillfully into erotic romantic suspense with this excellent series launch. Annie McKay flees her family farm and abusive husband in Oklahoma and moves into a trailer in rural North Carolina. When the cell phone left behind by the previous tenant starts to ring, she answers on a whim. On the other end is authoritative yet thoughtful Dylan Daniels, and Annie is immediately drawn in by his rough voice and apparently genuine concern for her well-being. They begin regular phone conversations, including deliciously hot phone sex, that push Annie beyond the narrow boundaries of her former life as she struggles to start over in the trailer park. Each has a disastrous past that interferes with their emotional connection, until passion and fear collide in one momentous night. While occasionally employing clichéd elements, O’Keefe infuses the situation with distinctive life and absorbing detail. Captivating characters and a cliffhanger ending will keep readers coming back for more.

A woman on the run from her violent husband settles into a trailer in a North Carolina park and answers a cellphone left by the previous tenant, leading her into an erotic journey with the enigmatic man on the other end of the line. Annie McKay has escaped her abusive husband and her troubled past, but now that she's met the bare necessities for survival, she's not sure what to do next. Ensconced in a ratty trailer park in North Carolina, far from her Oklahoma farm, she agrees to do some odd jobs in exchange for rent and a minuscule salary, but being on her own for the first time in her life is both terrifying and liberating. Answering a cellphone abandoned in her trailer, Annie is intrigued by the seductive voice on the other end and, for the first time in her life, has a flirtatious conversation that quickly turns erotic, leaving both Annie and the man on the other end stunned and craving more. Sheltered and ground down, Annie uses her sizzling conversations with the mysterious Dylan as an excuse to try on a new, sexual skin buffered by the relative safety of a phone connection, yet as their bond strengthens, Annie and Dylan become more entwined, and an actual meeting becomes inevitable. When a volatile situation in the park flares up and endangers Annie, Dylan whisks her to his estate, with every intention of keeping his distance, but Annie will have none of it and demands to meet him. Not surprisingly, that decision leads to a passionate encounter that ends with Annie breaking down in guilt, since she is still technically married, and determined to get free. But her husband isn't inclined to let her go easily. O'Keefe is one of the best contemporary romance authors writing today, and her foray into erotic romance is an unqualified success. Elegantly sensual and blisteringly sexual, the story immediately hooks readers and keeps them captivated with help from beautiful writing, complex characters, and a healthy dose of secrets, while a cliffhanger ending will have them eagerly awaiting Book 2. Breathtaking and passionately intense-a must-read for erotic romance fans.
