The Seafront Tearoom in the small British coastal town of Scarborough is a charmingly cozy refuge that inspires an unlikely friendship among a trio of women. Kat Murray grew up in Scarborough and is currently an unemployed single mom to little Leo, trying to make ends meet, and dealing with her irresponsible ex. Seraphine Moreau has recently arrived from France to be an au pair to a young girl in town, while Charlie Harrison is the features editor at a magazine. When Charlie arrives at the tearoom hoping to cover it in the magazine, Kat tries to talk her out of spoiling the hidden gem with mobs of tourists. Charlie agrees not to write about the Seafront if Kat and Seraphine can help her find other tearooms to review to meet her tight deadline. Thus begins a friendship that sustains them through family drama, long-buried secrets, terrible exes, and new love. VERDICT Greene (The Vintage Teacup Club) gets all the details just right in this engaging story of love and friendship, bolstered liberally by delectable tea and cakes.--Melissa DeWild, BookOps, New York P.L.
