Fans of Buchman’s Night Stalkers series will delight in this strong fourth installment (after Wait Until Dark). Chief Warrant Officer Lola LaRue, determined to succeed as a helicopter pilot, joins a Special Operations Aviation Regiment (SOAR) base in Bati, Pakistan, where she meets several fan-favorite characters who paired off in previous books. Just as she’s wondering whether all the men on base are already taken, she encounters Sgt. Tim Maloney. The desert heat has nothing on this duo, and soon Lola is fighting against her own lust and Tim’s intense romantic attentions. As only the second woman to qualify as a SOAR pilot, Lola wants to focus all her attention on proving herself worthy of flying alongside the legendary Beale, but she can’t keep her hands off Tim. Dangerous top-secret missions and sizzling love scenes lead to a satisfying conclusion that hints at a possible civilian-side spin-off series to come.

In the latest Night Stalker book, New Orleansborn warrant officer Lola LaRue joins the group as a pilot. Their sniper, Kee Stevenson, thinks she's a fake, while gunner Tim Maloney falls hard for her. As the Night Stalkers try to thwart the threat of biological warfare from Iran, Lola also must work through her feelings of lovelessness and inadequacy so that she can accept her worthiness as both a Night Stalker and the focus of Tim's love. The tension only gets worse when she realizes that she has to take over as lead pilot when the legendary Emily Beale has to surrender the controls. Then she's forced to confront her crooked, abusive father again. With Buchman's usual fine technical details and well-honed emotional rendering of characters, this superb military romance about a strong female loner learning to be part of a team as well as a couple is quite simply a great read. Once again Buchman takes the military romance to a new standard of excellence.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2013, American Library Association.)
