Mae's third contemporary (after No Interest in Love) wins the reader over with a sympathetic, accurate portrayal of unrequited crushes and the terror of confessing romantic feelings. Alec and Theresa have been friends for years, and Alec has been in love with Theresa almost the entire time. When Theresa needs a bachelor to auction off for a Valentine's Day charity event, Alec is happy to step in; he wants to try to move on from being besotted with Theresa, since she doesn't return his affection, and what better way than with the adventurous graffiti artist Rian, who wins his company for the night? Alec has no idea that Theresa has realized that her feelings for him also go deeper than friendship, and she will do everything she can to get his attention before it's too late. Mae has developed a charming, realistic couple who straddle the line between friendship and romance without neglecting either. Alec narrates one half of the book and Theresa narrates the other half, creating a balanced portrayal of the major emotional events of their relationship.
