Lovable doofus Rick Blanco is something of a slacker. His expertise lies in his ability to skip out on monotonous meetings at his desk-jockey job, an almost mystical skill learned by observing company legend Bob Watson. As Rick awaits the perfect moment of departure, he passes the time pornolizing his colleagues, imagining them in flagrante delicto. His interior monologues are outrageous and outrageously funny. Rick also daydreams about Audrey, his nephew's nanny, whom he has asked out 87 times without success. Now, Audrey has texted, agreeing to meet Rick for the English Beat concert that night on one condition: Rick must first spend some quality time with his nephew before his family moves to Argentina the following day. What follows is a madcap, riotous adventure that finds Rick in one pickle after another. Bardsley (Cash Out, 2012) excels at fast-paced, observational wit that manages to poke fun at our modern life while adding a little heart. For fans of Joshua Ferris, Sam Lypsite, and The Office.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2016, American Library Association.)
