CPA, coffee addict, knitter, and sometime amateur sleuth Kelly Flynn is about to become a mother in Sefton’s meandering 15th Kelly Flynn mystery (after 2016’s Knit to Be Tied). She has also finally decided to tie the knot with the baby’s father, long-time love Steve Townsend. Kelly’s extended family of friends is delighted. She barely has to lift a finger, for her gang insists on planning every detail of her upcoming nuptials and childbirth. And by the way, a woman is murdered on the golf course behind House of Lambspun, Kelly’s favorite knitting shop, in Fort Connor, Colo. However, no one saw anything, and the police have no suspects. The victim eventually has a name, but otherwise she’s a cypher whom the reader has no particular reason to care about. The major reason she seems to have been killed is so that the book can qualify as a mystery. Catching up with Kelly, Steve, and rest of the Lambspun crew is the point of the story, and that may be enough for readers who enjoy this series. Agent: Jessica Faust, BookEnds.

Accountant Kelly Flynn (Knit to Be Tied, 2016, etc.) knits a baby hat while awaiting the arrival of her first child.Pregnancy brings a host of changes for Kelly. Instead of her usual strong black coffee, her friend Jennifer Stroud brings her cups of matcha green tea from Pete's Porch Cafe. Too round to swing a bat, she watches from the stands as Pete's niece plays softball. Her friends think she should marry her boyfriend, Steve Townsend, so she does. While she's not working on the accounts of her two remaining clients, Kelly sits in a comfy armchair in the House of Lambspun, Mimi Shafer's knitting shop, working soft blue cotton yarn into a hat for Baby Jack. That's where she hears newcomer Geraldine tell the grisly details of a murder on a nearby golf course. It seems that golf pro Giselle Armstrong was found murdered on the links. Giselle had stolen sports equipment entrepreneur William Callahan away from his first wife, Meredith, who killed herself in despair. Eventually, Baby Jack arrives. Even later, the murderer is unmasked. And Jack gets to wear that blue hat. Caffeine-free, stress-free, and detection-free, Sefton's latest rambles contentedly through the Colorado countryside, providing little incident and less suspense.
