In Thriller Awardâwinner Lyons's suspenseful fifth thriller featuring FBI agent Lucy Guardino (after 2014's After Shock), her capable, troubled heroine faces one daunting challenge after another. Lucy's return to work at the Pittsburgh office of the FBI, two months after her mother was killed by a man sent to kill Lucy, is difficult. Her unit is being disbanded, and she has limited choices: retiring on a medical pension, reviewing complaints to human resources, or serving in the FBI's internal affairs unit. Fortunately, Lucy gets another chance to do the work she loves when a former prosecutor, Seth Bernhart, asks her to help the woman called June Unknown, who was rescued as a child from a sexual predator. Seth is working on civil suits on June's behalf aimed at getting reparations from anyone who possessed pornographic images of her, but death threats against June lead him to seek out Lucy. Lyons combines plausible plot twists with a credible portrayal of a woman trying to balance her professional responsibilities with her family ones.
