Fields of Grace

In 1872, when the Vogts discover their oldest son, Henrik, will be drafted into military service when he turns 18, they prepare to leave Russia to find new lives and religious freedom in America. Reinhardt Vogt's foster brother, Eli, joins them on the dangerous ocean voyage, along with the couple's three young sons. Traci Svensgaard gives an authentic sound to this historical Mennonite story. She portrays the family's sadness when they lose a young child aboard ship, as well as the oldest son's mysterious anger toward his parents.
