Bestseller Coulter’s 19th FBI thriller (after 2014’s Power Play) immediately immerses the reader in heart-stopping suspense. At New York City’s J.F.K. Airport, a man waiting in the security line suddenly grabs a woman and brandishes a grenade. Fortunately, FBI agent Lacey Sherlock, who’s nearby, manages to disarm him. No one is harmed. Less than an hour later, during a funeral service for a U.S. senator at Manhattan’s St. Patrick’s Cathedral, a quick-thinking priest seizes a backpack containing a time bomb, runs out the Fifth Avenue entrance, and tosses the bomb into the air just before it explodes. Miraculously, no one is seriously injured. Sherlock, declared a hero for her actions, spends much of the book trying to avoid the media, but others, including her FBI agent husband, Dillon Savich, focus on unmasking the fiend behind these two attacks and others in which each of the perpetrators appears to have been hypnotized—or terrorized—into acting.
