Then her team is attacked by experimental human-animal hybrids, who lack the self-control of the X-Ops shapeshifters. Bear shifter Declan MacBride, who’s been nursing a crush on Kendra for years, thinks he needs to protect her; he’s impressed when she proves to be a capable, courageous fighter. Kendra starts to realize how attractive Declan is, but he’s terrified that seeing him in bear form will scare her off. Even as fantasy science, the hybrids and their origins are hard to believe, but Tyler keeps the reader distracted with relentless ambushes and a sizzling night of lovemaking. Tyler (Her Lone Wolf, 2014) continues her paranormal-military X-Ops series from the perspectives of Kendra Carlsen, an assistant at the Department of Covert Operations (DCO), and Declan McBride, the DCO's bear shifter. The DCO is a secret Special Forces unit that employs humans who can shift into animals. Tyler picks up the still-unfolding plot involving an evil mastermind who is creating monstrous hybrid shifters by injecting shifter DNA into humans. When Kendra and Declan are sent to Costa Rica for routine training, they are beset by these hybrids, and with help from characters from the previous installments, track them to their base. Fans will love the reunion and the continued cliffhanger: Who is creating these hybrids and why? Her Wild Hero is an exciting installment in a truly entertaining series. If each book focuses on a new blossoming romance at the DCO, will every DCO shifter end up with a partner? Let's hope so. Thankfully, there is plenty of pairing to do.
