Lieutenant Jayson Harmon, of the Department of Covert Operations (DCO), desperate to heal from a major spinal injury, is offered a drug that will make him part shifter so he can go on missions with his girlfriend, Layla Halliwell, a cat-shifter. To test the drug's effects, the deputy director sends Jayson to Ukraine on a deceptively simple mission. Layla senses foul play (the serum failed on a number of previous test subjects) and secretly follows him. This is the fifth installment in Tyler's X-Ops series, and it's just as fresh and fun as the first. It features returning field partners Clayne and Danica, from book two, Her Lone Wolf (2014), as they follow an illegal arms dealer to Ukraine, and Ivy and Landon, in book one, Her Perfect Mate (2014), who continue to keep an eye on the corrupt weapons manufacturer and DCO committee member, Thomas Thorn.
