When pianist Lauren Brownley witnesses a cold-blooded murder, she becomes key to the government's attempt to convict a mob kingpin. But they have to keep her safe and under wraps until the trial a task that proves difficult when Lauren and her "guardian," FBI Agent Sam Grey Wolf Rawlins, survive a suspicious plane crash in the Rockies only to face more assassins and the unforgiving elements. A seemingly fragile heroine with a surprising amount of grit, a wary, resourceful hero with some issues of his own, and well-handled sexual tension turn a standard thriller plot into a fast-paced, sensual wilderness adventure that, despite some too easily resolved issues, should keep readers engaged. Gray (The Prodigal Daughter, Mira, 2000) has written a number of well-received romances and lives in Durango, CO.
