Even when she masters the Change, British werewolf Gillian Maitland cant please her coldhearted father, who has kept her confined to her room her entire life. Then England is swept into World War I, and Gillian meets quarter-blood American werewolf Ross Kavanaugh. Although Ross is incapable of Changing, Gillian falls for him, and becomes pregnant. Knowing that her father and his pack would never approve of a union with a less than full-blooded mate, Gillian breaks it off, and Ross returns to theU.S., where he becomes a homicide detective. Eleven years later, word arrives that a boy who has stowed away from England to Americaclaims that Ross is his father. Ross, who has recently left the NYPD in disgrace because of false accusations, realizes that the boy is indeed Gillians, and the son hes never known. Once again, the very talented Krinard has written an emotionally rich story, complete with sympathetic, multilayered characters and a darned good plot.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2008, American Library Association.)
