At the start of DiSilverio’s humorous if uneven third caper featuring fledging PI Gigi Goldman and business partner Charlotte “Charlie” Swift (after 2011’s Swift Edge), the odd-couple Colorado Springs, Colo., detectives take on an unusual client, Heather-Anne Pawlusik, the trainer with whom Gigi’s lowlife ex-husband, Les, ran off to Costa Rica. Heather-Anne wants Gigi and Charlie to find the missing Les. When their client turns up dead, the case really gets personal as Gigi, her teenage son, and the elusive Les all shoot to the top of the suspect list. Unfortunately for the increasingly complex investigation, Charlie plays a relatively limited role because of her still-healing gunshot wound. This is also bad news for the reader, since much of the series’ appeal lies in the clash of character between straight-arrow Charlie and the eccentric Gigi. And Gigi proves far less amusing without Charlie’s wry take on her antics. Fans should wish for a Swift return. Agent: Paige Wheeler, Folio Literary Management.

Odd-couple female investigators take on an equally odd case when they're hired to look into the disappearance of the man who used to be married to one of them. The convoluted tale of how Georgia "Gigi" Goldman ended up an employee of her ex- husband's paramour is rooted in Charlie Swift's fanny. Way back when, Charlie founded Swift Investigations with silent partner Les Goldman. When good-for-nothing Les ran off to Costa Rica with home-wrecker Heather-Anne, he left Gigi with a pile of nothing but the partnership in Swift. The most recent of the twosome's adventures (Swift Edge, 2011, etc.) has left Charlie recovering from a bullet in the bottom. The pain in the butt doesn't bother Charlie half as much as having Gigi in charge, especially when Gigi announces that Heather-Anne has hired them to investigate the whereabouts of one Les Goldman--quite an ironic turn of events, as Gigi clearly wasn't keeping very close track of him during their marriage. Though Gigi's certain she won't be buying whatever Les is peddling if she does run into him again, she thinks her two charming children, brat Kendall and taciturn Dexter, are entitled to a return address for their child support, should Les ever get around to paying it. Though the action grinds to a painful halt when Charlie pairs off with her potential love interests, anything can happen when Gigi's at the helm.

Charlie Swift's ditzy partner, Gigi Goldman, takes center stage while Charlie convalesces from her bullet-in-buttocks injury at home. In a moment of dubious decision-making, Gigi agrees that Swift Investigations will take a missing-person case--that of her own ex-husband, sleazy embezzler Les Goldman. The client is none other than the husband-grabbing bimbo, Heather-Anne, but Gigi just can't say no. Troubles magnify big-time when Heather-Anne turns up dead. Meanwhile, Charlie comes back to work trying to make rational sense of Gigi's choices but instead compounds the mayhem while trapped in a snowstorm from hell. VERDICT DiSilverio goes out on a limb writing her third series title (after Swift Edge) from Gigi's point of view. Because of that, zaniness runs amok--this is marshmallow fluff at its best--but readers will probably like the author to give us more Charlie next time. Definitely for Janet Evanovich readers, and also recommend for Elaine Viets fans.
