Le Veque electrifies with her second Scots and Swords romance (after Highland Gladiator), blending ancient fighting traditions and love in the late 15th century. When Highland warrior Bane Morgan attempts to save a stranger, Lucia Symington, from being robbed, he’s partly motivated by honor but also glad for the opportunity to work off a bit of his own angst over his past mistakes in battle. But indentured servant Lucia is no wilting flower and gives Bane a piece of her mind for interfering and escalating the situation. The pair quickly become involved, and Bane discovers renewed purpose in his love for her, but without the funds to free Lucia from her servitude they cannot marry. To raise the money, Bane turns to the legendary Ludus Caledonia, a fight guild just outside of Edinburgh where men go to learn the art of war and compete in gladiator-style spectacles. But even if he wins his fights, one thing still stands between him and Lucia: Lucia’s employer, who has her eye on Bane. Though the story grows repetitive, the myriad lovable characters will keep readers engaged. With plenty of heat and heart, this is sure to please fans of Highland romance.
