Author Rick Riordan's hard-boiled detective fiction features San Antonio sleuth Tres Navarre, who is struggling to distance himself from his past only to stumble across a body while vacationing at an old hotel on Texas's Rebel Island. The mood of the novel is heightened by an approaching hurricane. Riordan's terse prose is perfect for narrator Tom Stechschulte's gritty voice. Stechschulte narrates with vigor and enthusiasm, assuming the identity of the protagonist seamlessly.
