When he learns that her stepfather has been making unwanted advances toward her, he packs up Vanessa and heads West. Vanessa has always loved Clayton, and his feelings for her turn romantic as they journey to escape her tormentor. VERDICT Suspense and a plethora of well-drawn secondary characters make Gray's (Hidden; The Survivor) series debut much more than your average Western romance. With strong character development and a brisk pace, this is a good choice for readers of Henry McLaughlin.
