Sometime in the 1920s, a group of scientists and industrialists secretly develop the technology to explore the galaxy and, after discovering a planet capable of sustaining human life, travel there to start a colony. Centuries later, Force Reconnaissance Officer Mike Blackburn is sent from Earth to infiltrate the colony, where he discovers a nightmarish world controlled by a cruel ruling class made up of the original colonists, still alive owing to exposure to an unfamiliar fungus and steady supply of fresh organs harvested from the populace. Soon Mike is at war with the military forces of an entire planet hell-bent on preventing him from returning home to report his findings, with only local dissident Grace Moody at his side. It won't be an easy fight--for the bad guys. VERDICT Ellis (The Wild Storm, Vol. 3) and Howard (The Astounding Wolf-Man: Complete Collection) deliver what might be the single most fast-paced, action-packed graphic novel of all time, with nearly every page featuring either an explosion, gunfight, or leap from something either very high up or moving extremely fast.
