When U.S. Air Force captain Joe Greco's best friend and combat photojournalist Brigid Wheeler's lover, Cooper Scott, is found alive after they thought he was killed by insurgents in Iraq, the two of them have to confront their own long-denied feelings for each other, which they have honorably kept at bay for two grieving years. However, all three of them become involved in a special ops mission; then, when Joe and Brigid finally succumb to passion, they discover that their overheard mention of Cooper almost blows his secret CIA cover. As if he wasn't already in enough trouble after falling hard for the desperate mistress of the special-ops--targeted drug lord, who decides to kill them all. The intertwining of good plotting with grief, honor, and guilt makes for a great read in the first of a new Special Ops series by Mann, already a RITA Award winner for her Wingmen Warriors series.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2005, American Library Association.)
