It's not easy when you're balancing two jobs. Especially when those jobs are private investigator andyes, seriouslygrim reaper. In the seventh Charley Davidson adventure, Charley has a very interesting case: people are disappearing after writing what appear to be suicide notes, and the notes are so similar, in terms of their wording, that Charley wonders if someone else is masterminding the disappearances. Meanwhile, on a rather more personal note, a dozen hellhounds have escaped from Hell and are hell-bent on finding Charley, killing her, and handing her lifeless corpse over to Satan. Oh, and Charley's father is missing, too. And she's pregnant with the baby of her lover, who happens to be Satan's son. Like a really good juggling act, the novel keeps us entertained and distracted by getting us to look here, then over there, then back here again. Charley is a great character, a flesh-and-blood human woman who also happens to be seriously nonhuman, and fans of this excellent series will be eager to get their hands on this new one.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2014, American Library Association.)
