Injured Army Captain Brian Hutchinson comes home to Twilight, Tex., for Christmas. Discharged because of PTSD and his refusal to speak, Hutch just wants to be left alone with his anger. Unfortunately his flaky sister, Ashley, sublet his house to quiet Jane Brown, and when he walks in, Jane pepper-sprays him. When Ashley hops over to Mexico with a new flame and leaves her daughter behind, Jane helps him take care of the little girl and gradually begin to heal his physical and psychological wounds. Hutch is not the only one with baggage: “Jane” is actually a woman named Meredith who’s on the run from an abusive husband and hoping to set down roots with Twilight’s welcoming folks. Wilde heaps almost too many troubles on Meredith and Hutch, but they wade through it all and build a new family in this heartwarming Christmas romance. Agent: Jenny Bent, Bent Agency.

Wounded war vet Brian Hutchinson is taken aback (to say the least) when he walks in his front door and gets pepper sprayed. Meredith is being hunted by her sociopathic ex-husband and has good reason for her action--it's just that she attacked the wrong guy, her absent housemate's brother, the one man who just might be able to keep her safe. A psychosomatically mute hero who needs to forgive himself and a heroine who must overcome her paralyzing fear vow to keep the holidays happy for the two young children in their charge and find healing and love in the process. VERDICT PTSD, mental illness, abusive violence, and killer cops are not your average holiday fare. Yet tempered with love, a caring community, a dash of suspense, and the romantic delight of a Twilight Christmas, this engaging story brims with strength and hope--definitely one to savor. Wilde (Love with the Perfect Cowboy) lives in Texas.
